DEALING WITH YOUR TOXIC BOSS EFFECTIVELY
Aah, the toxic boss! We’ve seen plenty of social media posts where users express their intentions of removing toxic people from their lives. If your boss is one of those, it will take more than a click of the “unfollow” button to get rid of your toxic boss.
Here are some points to take into consideration if your superior resembles a TOXIC BOSS.
Are your toxic boss’s regular reprimands warranted?
If there is anything valid in their confrontation with you, step back and take ownership of your error/s.
And, if you don’t think so, make a note of it. If it’s regular enough, you’ll need it to escalate the matter.
Have a chat to HR
You don’t need to lodge an official complaint or take any drastic measures (especially if you’re still fuming). A brief chat regarding how your boss addresses you and how it’s affected you in the workplace should be enough for HR to keep an eye out.
Don’t take it personally
Unless it IS personal, give your toxic boss a break. Sometimes their pressures and stresses overwhelm them too. It’s never acceptable to treat others in the office disrespectfully but if, for example, it occurs every month-end, maybe cut them some slack.
After much trying, and you find that none of the above works for you, open yourself up for other opportunities where you’ll be valued more than you’re belittled. It takes a strong, confident person to step out of a toxic situation and move on. If you’re sure that you’re not the cause of their attitude towards you, then let it go … there are more important things in life than a toxic boss.
